Christmas started early in the hospital with a visit by the Rotary and Ladies Inner Wheel singers at 11.00 am on Friday the 21st. Accompanied by Brian Foakes on the piano they sang a selection of carols for the patients.
Our picture shows the members of the choir in the hospital conservatory.
Now on Christmas Day morning I spotted Father Christmas talking with Mayor and Mayoress Bill and Francis Hancock in one of the hospital corridors. His sleigh was too big to get it into the narrow corridors of our War Memorial Hospital so all the presents that he was delivering for the patients were loaded onto a hospital trolley!
The Mayoral party arrived at 10 o'clock accompanied by Alistair Murray the Town Crier. Nobody sleeps!
The band assembled by Mike Ham played in the Memory Corner and members of the Friends Committee sang the carols for the patients whilst Father Christmas accompanied by a trusty elf visited each patient in turn and gave them a present. It always baffles me how he knows who will still be in the hospital on Christmas Day morning!
Merry Christmas to all!
