At the Civic Service held on Sunday 8 September, our Chairman Bernard Spilsbury was presented with a Civic Award for his services to the community by the Mayor of Burnham and Highbridge, Cllr Andy Brewer, and the High Sheriff of Somerset, Johnnie Halliday.
According to the citation presented: (together with a framed certificate and engraved badge)
"Bernie has been a member of the committee of the Friends of Burnham War Memorial Hospital for approximately 15 years, serving as Vice Chairman for 6 years and now as Chairman since June 2016. Under his tenure the Friends of Burnham Hospital have gone from strength to strength with several new initiatives
Bernie has also been a leading light in the King Alfred Concert Band for more than 10 years and is a past Chairman. He has also been involved with various charities over the years including The SURE Scanner Appeal and Prostate Cancer UK
He has also been a member of the Bubbling Springs Tai-Chi for 14 years and also sings with the Burnham & Highbridge Choral Society.
In addition to all these commitments, he still finds time to cut the lawn of his 92 year old neighbour."
We are delighted that Bernie's dedication to the Friends of the Hospital, as well as his many other commitments within the community, have been recognised in this way.
Congratulations Bernie from us all at the Friends!
