The fund raising started in 2018 by Mark Stanton (pictured and story below) who sadly passed away in 2022. Up to his death he raised over £5000 for the hospital.
His legacy continues as his son Jamie and wife Elly took up the gauntlet in Mark’s memory supported by family and “Caravan Family Owners”. What is even more surprising is that a lot of the fundraisers are not local but from Cardiff but even so share and support Mark’s passion about the War Memorial Hospital.
After Mark’s passing the caravan owners voted that half the money raised in the future would go to Burnham Hospital and the other half would go to Velindre Cancer Hospital in Cardiff who supported Mark and his family through his final months.
For 2024 Mark’s son Jamie cycled 392 miles on his peloton between 17th to 20th September to shadow the forthcoming charity ride in the USA by the volunteers at Velindre Cancer Hospital, he raised a total of £2032.
This year (2024) the total raised is £6000 with half of the amount been donated to our hospital. Ceri Joyce Chair of ‘The friends of Burnham Hospital’ stated what an incredible sum and that the monies donated for the hospital would be put towards much needed equipment to help patients and staff in the future.
Charity Extravaganza raises £1750.00 for Burnham on Sea War Memorial Hospital
Caravan owners Mark and Elly Stanton for the 2nd year running organised a charity extravaganza at the Ritz Social Club for the ‘Friends’ of Burnham Hospital.
Adults and children of all ages attended to support the event. The funds were enhanced by the fact that the Ritz did not charge for the venue.
Ceri Joyce, Chair of The Friends was invited to attend and accept the cheque at the end of the evening.
Initially the amount raised was £1500.00 then after the cheque was presented a well wisher gave Mark a further £250.00 to add to the cause.
Ceri stated that she always felt humbled by people’s generosity especially in this case as the majority in attendance were holiday makers from Wales, calling themselves the ‘Caravan Owners Club’.
She further stated how grateful she was that they had nominated the hospital as their charity for 2 years running.
Monies raised would be put towards equipment to enhance the lives of patients and staff at the hospital.
The Friends extend Mark and Elly and all those attending a huge thank you for the continued support from their wonderful evening of fundrasing.
